St. Petersburg in general in a very drab place. With the exception of
the palaces and some of the government buildings, the architecture is
very plain and bland. There are almost no houses, as 95% of the people
live in the many, many very large apartment buildings. I believe there
are more apartment buildings here than almost anyplace we've been, with
the possible exception of Cairo. This first tour was a drive to the Summer
Palace at Peterhof. The palaces, of course, are all beautiful with losts
of gold trim and antiques. Quite a contrast from how the people really
live today. We also saw a excellent folk dance show in the evening. |
