This Mosque can be seen from every part of Cairo. The style is called Ottoman Baroque that imitates the great religious mosques of Istanbul. Construction was begun in 1830 and finished in 1857. There is extensive use of alabaster both inside and out. The two slender 270 ft. minarets are unusual for Cairo. Mohamed Ali was born in Greece of Albanian origin.
