Barcelona, Spain

In Barcelona we stayed at the Hotel-Fira Palace. This is a very nice 4 star hotel with a large room. The location was not good as there was nothing within walking distance. It seems popular for conventions, tho.

Breakfasts here were typical: cold meats (ham, salami etc), hard rolls and pastries. A little cereal and yogurt, and sometimes eggs.

Barcelona was much larger than I had anticipated. Mostly old buildings. It is an old city however, and I guess I should have expected this. Hold your mouse over the pictures for a brief description.

Our all day tour of Barcelona included the Cathedral, Gothic Quarter, the 1992 Olympic Village, the Spanish Village (a large area of craft shops). A lot of walking and steps here of cobblestones

At Gaudi's Park Guell there are lots of mosaic's including the salamander at the entrance. Gaudi also designed some very unusual buildings in the area.

There are also 5 Picasso museums here. We saw one with his early work, which I thought was much better than his later style.

mosaic looking items in store window

This shop window contains items which look like mosaic, but aren't. They have developed a technique of making molds of carved ceramic pieces which simulate small tiles. Then they are mass produced.

An unfinished church, started over 100 yrs. ago.

Sagrada Familia started over 100 years ago.
