Montserrat means Serrated Mountains and is a huge mountain northwest of Barcelona. Here is the Monastery and Shrine of the Virgin of Montserrat. Because of here dark complexion, she is known as the Black Virgin. |
Here in the Cathedral is where the boys choir, Escolania, sings. These are boys who are 10-14 years old. They have to live here at the Monastery and if their voice changes to a deeper tone, they must leave. |
